April Theme - Cute houses
bullet journal April cover page

The monthly cover page is a great way to use this space to get as creative as you would like. While some themes are pretty restrictive, choosing to draw houses as a piece is so versatile. I opted to paint a cute cottage house for my April cover page, with a garden full of beautiful flowers and leaves.
I love to use gouache paints because they are so easy to work with and forgive when making mistakes. So if you want to start painting in your bullet journal, gouache paints are the perfect medium because:
- If you make a mistake, you can reactivate the paint with some water on your brush and dab lightly with a tissue to remove some of the colors.
- Now, wait for your paper to dry.
- Paint over it in light layers allowing room to dry between each layer.
If you are interested in investing in a quality notebook that can handle paints, read this review of the notebooks we use and recommend.
April bullet journal weekly spreads

The great thing about using a Bujo (bullet journal) is how customizable each spread can be. While you can be in the mood to go crazy with your art one week, another may be busy and can make your pages pretty using easy doodles.
Moreover, when when you are in the mood to get all artsy, a creative way to incorporate your weekly spread is by making a little notebook. You can easily do this by:
- First, figure out how many pages you will need. In the example above, I added two days on each page.
- Then, cut your papers, making sure they are the same size and fold them in half.
- Now, attach the pages using washi tape between each page.
- Finally, glue your little notebook into your journal and use some washi tape to open and close the notebook.
Easy weekly spread with doodles

Adding cute doodles is the perfect solution if you want to make an easier spread that still looks pretty. These easy-to-draw houses, trees, and fences were so simple to draw. Finally, adding some color with my favorite brush pens makes this spread feel like a children's storybook.

Bujo mood tracker and sleep log

Your bujo mood tracker can be as simple or creative as your heart desires. If you love to doodle, use your theme and draw little doodles for each day of the month. The essential supplies for drawing doodles are using a set of fine black liners. Smaller tip pens can make it easy to draw smaller drawings; here are a few tips so you can doodle with ease:
- Start by using the 0.5mm size tip for the main shape of your doodle
- Then, use the 0.4mm or 0.3mm size tip for the main details.
- Finally, use the 0.1mm size tip or smaller for the final details.
By using different-sized fine liner pens, you will be able to draw small doodles perfect for your bullet journal layouts. Moreover, this will add depth to your drawings.
bullet journal sleep log
Practicing self-care is so essential to maintaining a healthier lifestyle. A sleep log tracker spread can help you track how well you sleep throughout the month, and then you can analyze the chart at the end of the month. This way, you can track your sleep and make adjustments for the next month, such as:
- Sleeping earlier at night.
- Trying to wake up at an earlier time.
- Deciding an appropriate time to shut off all electronics.
Making minor adjustments using tracker spreads can help you take care of yourself and track your progress.
Bullet journal meal planner

A monthly meal planner spread can be helpful in so many ways. It is an excellent way to:
- Track how many healthy meals you are eating during the month.
- Having a page to reference back to when you are stuck on what to cook.
- Plan your meals ahead of time.
- Help budget your grocery shopping, so you know what to buy.
How to make a meal planner spread
Begin with drawing enough boxes for each day of the month.
Choosing the size of your boxes depends on how many meals you want to jot down. For example, I only wanted to track the main meal I cook each day. Therefore I didn't need much room each day.
Now decorate your spread (if you want to) by adding doodles around the layout. If you don't want to draw, you can use washi tape, stamps, or stickers.
bullet journal doodles

To finish off this bullet journal theme, I made step-by-step how to draw house doodles and how easy it is to draw cute tiny houses. Also, you can mix and match different parts of each house to create your cute doodles, and the options are endless.

April flower bullet journal theme

A flower bullet journal theme is a favorite amongst the bullet journal community. And for a good reason, not only are flowers easy to draw, they turn your spreads into beautiful pieces of art.
There are so many ways you can add flowers to your bullet journal spreads. This month, we drew hanging vines with leaves and floral doodles. But the design still needed something extra, so we added a golden birdcage with a tiny bird doodle.
Of course, you can add your style to any popular theme, so we added a few aesthetic elements to make it prettier. Examples of Aesthetic elements can be:
- butterflies
- birds
- ribbons
- stars
- birdcages
- Inspirational words or quotes
Moreover, you can take inspiration from others and quickly make it your own by adding your unique style.
April bullet journal calendar

I put all my old notebooks and notepads in one box when organizing my stationery supplies. When I make spreads, I can reuse an unused item, such as the blue paper used in this calendar spread is, from an old notepad.
Now that I had finished my layout, I surrounded the page with pretty bullet journal flowers, vines, trees, and a birdcage.
Bullet journal weekly floral spread

I had been practicing watercolor painting and had painted these two birds. Instead of getting lost in a pile of art notebooks, I cut the birds out and decided to make a cage that you can fold open. Although I admit, the birdcage was tedious because I had to cut the shape using an Exacto knife.
Finally, adding flowers to the backgrounds tied this whole spread together. Flowers can be so calming to draw once you get them. So whenever I feel like something is missing, bullet journal flowers save the day!

This weekly layout has an illustration in the middle of the page. Next, I drew hanging floral vines down the center of each page to make space for my weekly layout.
April bullet journal floral tracker

I made this tracker by drawing birdcages with my favorite gold gel pen. The birdcages were hanging from vines that had leaves and simple flower doodles. Then added some butterflies and bird silhouettes to complete this tracker spread.
Pro tip: If you feel intimidated to draw something difficult (such as the birds in this spread), drawing silhouettes is the perfect hack!
Blue mood tracker spread

This blue mood tracker spread has two feathers that are colored using blending different shades of blue pencils. Finally, drawing silhouettes of flying birds as the mood tracker.
Floral gratitude spread

Gratitude spreads are a great way to make your bullet journal a positive space. Write things you are grateful for, no matter how big or small.

One of the benefits of adding your art to your bullet journal is that although you may find it hard to draw your theme at the beginning of the month. Or maybe you find yourself needing to copy how to draw (which is ok).
But as you practice making different spreads using the same theme, you start to get more creative, and this doodle page is proof of just that.
By the end of the month, you will gradually find the confidence to get creative and try different styles. You will be more comfortable exploring your art.
And that in itself is one of the many benefits of bullet journaling.
